BESS STREETER ALDRICH PARK RESERVATION INFORMATION

Reservations are not required in order to hold an event such as a birthday party or family reunion in the park but if you would like to use the park for an event such as this it is recommended to check the schedule by clicking the link above. There is no fee for an event in the Bess Streeter Aldrich Park but occasionally the park is reserved for large events by organizations that in turn make a donation to the Bess Streeter Aldrich Park.  On some of those occasions it is not possible to hold other events in the park but it depends on the event.  If you have questions or would like to reserve the picnic shelter or the entire park please contact the Village Office – (402)994-6705.

The Village of Elmwood has had an ongoing park improvement project for many years.  About five years ago new flooring was installed for the basketball court and the lighting in the park was improved.  Elmwood received a matching grant from the Land and Water Use Conservation Fund which was instrumental in getting this project completed.

For the next phase of the project the Village also received a matching grant from the Land and Water Use Conservation Fund to help fund new playground equipment, improvements to the trail, electrical, and accessibility.  We have also received donations of money, services, and talent.

The first phase was completed in November, 2017.  This phase created a larger playground with updated equipment.  Two retaining walls were installed that creates a comfortable area for people to sit and observe their children playing.  The new playground contains an area specifically for 2 - 5 year old children and also a play structure for 5 - 12 year old children.  There are three new spinning features and also the merry-go-round is still in place.  There is a swing set with three belt swings and a Freedom swing for people with all abilities.

As part of this phase electricity has been restored to the picnic shelter along with new lighting.  This will give residents more options when using the shelter.  A light pole will be installed to help illuminate the playground area better.  A gazebo was installed in the fall of 2019.  The gazebo will be a great place to have music events and picnics!

The community has been very supportive and encouraging with the playground project.  As much as possible we used local talent and volunteers throughout the project.  The park is now open and enjoyed by many people.  Check out the comprehensive plan to see what the future holds!
