BOOK LOOK!
Here are just a few of the new books recently granted to the Elmwood Public Library. We hope you find something that will tempt you!
“Undefeated” by Steve Sheinkin: The astonishing underdog sports story recalls the 1907 Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania where one of the winningest teams in football ever played. This team played Harvard, Yale, and Army and audaciously vowed to take their place among the nation’s football powers. An unflinching look at the U.S. government’s violent persecution of Native Americans and the young men (including Jim Thorpe) who came together to face overwhelming obstacles both on the field and off.
“The Cow Who Climbed a Tree” by Gemma Merino: A very curious cow believes the sky is the limit and anything is possible. She’s always dreaming up wonderful things to do, but her sisters think her too silly!
“Winnie’s Great War” by Lindsay Mattick: There was always something special about this little bear and she wondered if there was anything bigger than the Woods. On August 24, 1914, she met Lieutenant Harry Colebourn. He named her Winnie and made her the mascot of the Second Canadian Infantry Brigade. Together they crossed the ocean to where the Great War raged. By war’s end, millions knew her name. This novel is based upon the true story of the world’s most famous bear!

The 2019 Cass County Fair is now over and it was better than ever. A fresh new look to the Open Class building, new food vendors and even more people than ever enjoyed the parade, Bull riding, and the Figure 8 Races.
Tara Price pulled an impossibility. She won both Champion and Reserve Champion in the Open Class photography division. Anyone who has entered photography in the fair knows how hard this accomplishment it and hates off to Tara!
The Elmwood-Murdock Merchants Association had a booth at the fair and showcased businesses, activities and what makes Elmwood-Murdock great.
This year, the Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation was pleased to honor the Cass County 4-H Member who created the Best Heritage Project. This year's winner was Harrison Koehn, Elmwood. It was our pleasure to provide him with a certificate, $25 prize money, and, of course, a copy of Mrs. Aldrich's most recognized book A LANTERN IN HER HAND. Harrison's project will remain on display at the Cass County Fair through Saturday.Congratulations, Harrison!
Many local residents won Championship and purple ribbons for their entries. For the next couple of weeks, I will post photos of the fair including videos of the parade. If you live far away didn't make it to the Cass County Fair this year then enjoy the sights and the sounds of the fair.
Several of our local kids did very well during the Stocker Calf Showmanship class on Wednesday.
It was early mornings for many kids and parents and a week that was long and short at the same time. I think these boys got up a little early, what do you think?
It wasn't all about the animals, Austin Hawks won Grand Champion on his bench/table woodworking project.
Brooke Goudie set a Kentucky Derby table setting that also won Grand Champion.
Congratulations to everyone who won and participated.

Yoga in the Park
Saturday mornings 8 am - 9 am
Cost is $5/person
Join us for Yoga in the Park at the Elmwood Park on Saturday mornings, brought to you by Dyan Lynn Bacon, owner of The Zen Room. It keeps growing each week and there is even discussion of adding another day based on the increased response.
We will count those that mark the event as “going” (click here) as registered. The final count will be checked 24 hours prior to the event. If there are fewer than 4 people marked as going, the event will be canceled for that Saturday morning.
If the events continue to be successful, we will plan to do Yoga in the Park into the Fall and possibly, pending a location, into Winter.
Bring a friend, a yoga mat (or towel) and a water bottle and come to relax during an hour of yoga!
**This is an all-level event, beginners are not only welcome - they are ENCOURAGED!! See you on the mat!!

Readers want to see involvement in and around our village. It not only helps to promote our town, but it could create interest in joining your group.
Youth groups and other civic groups do litter pick-up, sponsor Easter egg hunts, collect food for those less fortunate and meet for crafting, among lots of other events.
