Thank you for continuing to send me community news, events, and updates. No news is too small. We make our community stronger by sharing activities and news. We have a wonderful community with more happening than people realize. 

There is 4-H, scouting, the library, the park, and several businesses to shop. Looking for a greeting card at the last minute. You can find one at Bits N Pieces or even the Elmwood Convenience Store. Need your hair cut, head over to the Thairapist. Looking for daycare or preschool? There are several options. 

Want a cup of coffee and company in the morning?  Visit the community center.

Rob Clements in the Nebraska Legislature

Elmwood now has two people in the Capitol.

Bess Streeter Aldrich has been there since 1974 when she entered the Nebraska Hall of Fame.

I stopped to see her and took a picture last week. I also took a picture of the view from my chair in the Chamber.

My first two weeks at the Capitol have been very busy. The schedule is hectic and there is a lot to learn.

The Legislature meets in the chamber to vote on issues from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.
Then committees meet daily from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Dan Wiles and Mark Freeouf are my staff.
They are experienced and very helpful. The other Senators are also good to answer questions.

There are about 660 bills being considered. I need to study those that come out of committees to be voted on. It will still take some time to get up to speed.

I am thankful for the many words of support I have received.

Thank you for letting us into your first few weeks in Lincoln. We look forward to learning more about the Legislative process and your participation.

Bad News Follows Good News

Alas, friends of the Elmwood Park, there is bad news. We are all victims of thievery.

Someone stole the yellow Schnozz-Wump rocking toy from the park. (yes, that is it's official name)

Don't know how long it has been gone, we all want him back.

If anyone has any knowledge of its whereabouts please let me know. The Cass County deputies are also interested. Put the word out. Someone has to know something.

They can't put it in their yard because someone will see it.

It could be someone from far away that stole it but with the help of Facebook and spreading this around we can reach out and put everyone on the lookout.

Elmwood-Murdock Dominates Cystic Fibrosis and Multiple Sclerosis!!

The Elementary Student Council is partnered with the High School Student Council to do their very first joint fundraiser.

The money raised is being split between the UNMC Multiple Sclerosis Center and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Both of these organizations are near and dear to the hearts of our students and our community members.

In exchange for the generous donations, the teachers agreed to some pretty fun and outrageous stunts during their assembly on February 17.

Thank you for supporting this fundraiser and our Student Councils. We are excited to be helping TWO organizations with very positive missions. 

 To the parents of pre-school aged children

Time to start thinking about Pre-School enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year.

Based on the number of potential students that we have on our census report, our pre-kindergarten program looks like it will be full next year. We actually have more students on the list than we have spaces available.

The district runs two pre-school programs. Typically, our three-year-old students attend in the morning session and our four-year-old students attend in the afternoon session. Children need to turn 3 on or before July 31, 2017 and cannot turn 5 on or before July 31, 2017.

Based on space limitations, we are limited to 20 students in our pre-school program. Because we have the potential to have more than 20 students on our list for next year, we will prioritize enrollment based on the following conditions:

1. Students currently attending our pre-kindergarten program

2. 4-year olds living in the Elmwood-Murdock District

3. 3-year olds living in the Elmwood-Murdock District

4. Out of District student enrollment will be based on space limitations and if more than 20 students are interested, those spots will be given out by date and time of registration.

As a district, we know that there are a number of children who live outside the district boundaries who are interested in the program and we want to ensure that all applications are received and reserved for district patrons no later then April 1st. After that time, seats will be opened up to any child who would be interested in attending and does not reside in our district. At this time, we are looking at continuing to educate greater then 20 students in the afternoon session with two teachers.

f you are unable to registrar electronically, we have included a paper form. This is part 1 of the application process. Part 2 is to submit a non-refundable $25 registration fee to the elementary school as soon as possible. This fee assists in having an understanding to your commitment to the pre-school program.

At any time, parents are more than welcome to come and visit the program. We encourage all parents to contact the district if they have any questions or concerns.

Congratulations to the E-M Spirit Squad 

 The Elmwood-Murdock Spirit Squad won 3rd place at the Nebraska State competition over the weekend.

Congratulations to all the girls, their coaches, parents, and friends who support them all year.It takes hours of practice and commitment. 

For students who would like to join this high-spirited group, tryouts are just around the corner.

In FACT, this Wednesday, today, is a mandatory Parent/student meeting for anyone interested.
