Local 4-Hers Win Awards at 4-H Achievement EventSeveral local 4-Hers were recognized at the Cass County 4-H Achievement Event
on Sunday, November 3 at the Cass County Fairgrounds. 4-Hers recognized for High Points Awards for
4-H Involvement include Abraham Viduarre – First Place Junior Division, Members
without Animals; Kate Zakaras – First Place
and Spencer Koehn – Third Place Junior Division, Members with
Animals. Austin Hawks – Third Place
Intermediate Division, Members without Animals;
Whitney Koehn – First Place Intermediate Division, Members with Animals.
Megan Hawks – First Place, Senior Division Members without Animals; Emily
Zakaras - Third Place, Senior Division
Members with Animals. The overall High
Point Winner for Cass County was Whitney Koehn. 4-Hers winning trophies include Whitney Koehn – Memorable 4-H Experience Award,
Kate Zakaras – Kid of Character Award,
Spencer Koehn – Outstanding Junior 4-H Member, and Megan Hawks –
Outstanding Senior 4-H Member. Whitney Koehn was recognized with an award for
the Best County 4-H Career Portfolio. Her Career Portfolio will advance to
state competition. Whitney Koehn and Austin Hawks were recognized for winning
Premier Science Awards at the State Fair. This top award is given to 20
projects out of 440 entries in the areas of science and technology. Whitney
Koehn won an award for a computer photo design project and Austin Hawks won an
award for a robotics project. The State Life Skills team of Brenna Backemeyer,
Whitney Koehn, John Willey and Emily
Zakaras were recognized for placing first in the State Clothing Challenge Competition. 4-Hers recognized for Diamond Clover Awards include: Sela Rikli, Level 1; Lydia Nunez and Zane Rikli, Level 2;
Spencer Koehn and Abraham Vidaurre, Level 3; Kate Zakaras, Level 4; and Austin
Hawks, Level 5. The Level 6 Diamond Clover Award is achieved through a large,
two year community service project. It is the equivalent of earning a Boy Scout
Eagle Scout Award. Megan Hawks is currently working on her Level 6 Diamond
Clover project.

4-H Member Awards for years of membership were given to : Whitney Koehn, Josh Meyer – 10 years; Tanner Bornemeier, Lindsey Mills, Mirissa Scholting, Tara
Bornemeier, Charlotte Miller – 12 years.

Several local 4-H members were elected to the 4-H Youth Council for 2013-2014: Megan Hawks, Brenna Backemeyer, Lindsey Mills, and Tara Bornemeier.

'Best Christmas Pageant Ever' is at the Lofte

Manley, NE [November 13, 2013] - The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces that the beloved children's story, 'The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," will open on the main stage on Saturday, November 30.

Based upon the book written by Barbara Robinson, this is the story of the six rough-and-tumble Herdman kids who bully their way into the annual Sunday School Nativity play. The church ladies, the Revrand and even the volunteer fire department are sure this will be the worst Christmas pageant ever, but the Sunday School teacher remains stubbornly optimistic. The production is filled with youthful energy and a the true spirit of Christmas

The production is directed by Kevin Colbert. Starring as the pageant director and her husband are Anne Pope and Scott Nielsen of Eagle. Their children, Charlie and Beth help to narrate the story, and are played by real-life brother and sister Noah and Tess Arent of Murdock. The Herdmans are played by Mia Thomas of Bellevue, Samuel Gauthier and Adeline Morgenson of Louisville, Talon Flodman and Gus Pope of Eagle and Xander Monson of Brock. In all, there are fifty-six people in the play. Forty-four of them are children!

The production will run November 30, December 1, 6-8 and 12-15. Curtain times are at 7:30pm except for Sundays which are 2pm matinees. Tickets are $17 for adults and only $10 for children under 12. For reservations, please call the Lofte box office at 402.234.2553.

My friend, Lizzie Podrazo, is in the 3rd grade at Louisville. Her teacher has asked the kids to get as many post cards from the 50 states as they can. Lizzie keeps track by "undoing" a puzzle of the United States. She removes the puzzle piece for every state that she has received a post card from someone. If you are from one of the remaining states please send Lizzie a post card and help her complete her assignment!
