Straight line winds vs a rain tornado?
I don't know what to call it but it was horrible!
This was the sight south of Elmwood Monday afternoon.
The road workers were hard at it around 4:15.
This was the sky as I left Linocln Monday afternoon, about 5:10. The radio said that we were in a tornado
warning. That's the one where you go to the basement!
But I kept driving. And the weather got worse.
The black clouds seemed to eat up the bright blue sky. I had to quit taking pictures so I could grip the wheel.
It was the worst storm I've ever driven in. When I got to highway 1 I had to pull over for awhile. Then as I approached
Elmwood the orange barrels that the construction workers use were flying through the air just like in "Twister" at least
it was barrels and not combines or cows coming towards me.
I made it home safely to watch the storm with my family. The Campbells came over to take refuge.
Back at the Campbell ranch the cedar tree took a hit.
This building collapsed.
The bricks on the top of the building fell in the storm.
The park had some trees down.
The church entrance was blocked for awhile.
The water made a new stream through the church yard.
Some signs were blown off.
Rick Hawks truck had a tree fall on the front of it.
The roof of this porch blew up.
Taylor watched as Mary moved a tree limb from her yard.
The rain ends and the winds calm. The sky opens up to remind us that nature can be
destructive but can is also full of hope and beauty.
The clean up crews around town started immediately. Tractors, pick ups with trailers, and
4-wheelers with chains hauled away load after load of brush.
Shay helped Vince move the big limbs out of our yard.
Jordyn and Ariel moved the little ones.
And Atticus got all the rest.
Kalee made it in from Wabash to have a fun evening with us without power. We lit candles, made bacon and pancakes and talked.
It was great!
Tuesday morning dawned bright and clear. Holdredge street going west from Highway 1 showed the damage that OPPD is dealing with.
This could be why some of us don't have power. Some do though. Highly unfair!
The trees in the cemetary were downed.
Power lines all over town were down, too.
David's huge tree fell on his house. He was ready to chop it up and haul it away.
On a brighter note: F Street is near completion!!!!!
And the Bruns construction team took care of the hole in the road in front of our house!
"SPIRITS & THE STARS", a Plattsmouth Main Street Association fundraiser, will be held at Slattery Vintage Estates, 8925 Adams, just west of Nehawka, Nebraska on Saturday, September 18. Join us for an evening of wine/beer tasting and stargazing.
Wine and beer tasting (optional $5), fall soups and specialty sandwiches also available for purchase, and live music by "Entropy" (unplugged, alternative folk music) begin at 6pm. Stargazing at 7:30pm will be provided through multiple telescopes set up on the vineyard hillside by the Omaha Astronomical Society. Members of the Society will be on hand to guide you through the night sky. Door donation is $10 per person. Everyone is invited to attend.

Mike was one of the grillers for the concession stand at the Nebraska City Lourdes game in Elmwood.
Elmwood Murdock won 41-14!
Wes was the second grill master. The post prom committee ran the concessions as a fund raiser.
Jane, Cindy, and Connie ran the kitchen like a well oiled machine.
Greg Meyer's Barbershop is a great place for a haircut.
After Greg cuts your hair he gives you a little massage.
This is a hopping place on Saturday morning.
Greg is also a muscian.

The man cave.
Greg's shop is behind his house on East D Street. Kind of hidden but worth the walk. Greg is open
every day except Sundays and Mondays. Stop in for a trim and some good conversation about
hunting, fishing, and football.
