Local Students Represented E-M!
On June 27, fourteen students who are a part of Future Business Leaders of America traveled to Chicago. They competed with over 7 thousand other members from across the nation at the National Leadership Conference. Once in Chicago, the members did much more than compete in their events. They also toured local attractions such as the Navy Pier, Sears Tower and Chicago Board of Trade, attended state, regional and national meetings, observed campaigns for various offices, debated on and voted for these candidates, and networked with other young leaders from across our nation. Two adults from the community chaperoned the trip, the local chapter advisor, Kurk Shrader, and his wife, Kris. Everyone involved saw that the communities of Elmwood and Murdock were represented well based on the success of the trip: Britney Hrabik earned 5th place in Electronic Career Portfolio; Mallory Buck, Kevin Zoz, and Clay Carlton, 7th place in Multimedia Presentation; Trent Shrader, Marcus Winter, and Jon Luetchens, 2nd place in Partnership with Business Project; and Madison Stephen, Kevin Zoz, and Scott Ronhovde, 2nd place in Community Service Project. Scott also made finals in the Impromptu Speaking event. Other Elmwood-Murdock competitors included Sierra Ronhovde, Megan Bober, and Hannah Fischer, American Enterprise Project; Madison and Sam Stephen, Web Site Development; Jon Luetchens, Public Speaking I; Lachelle Stille, FBLA Principles and Procedures; and Marcus Winter, Introduction to Business. The conference was a huge success and the members who attended had a blast! J

Get a Clue @ your Library – 2007 Summer Reading Program
Come and join your friends at the Elmwood Public Library for the 2007 Summer Reading program. You can “Get a Clue @ your Library” on July 30th. Pre-school thru 3rd grade will met from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, and 4th thru 6th can participate from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. Both groups will be exploring the public library, checking out Nebraska Wildlife from the Nebraska Games and Parks Commission, and learning about Geo-Cashing with the GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) Units from the Gretna 4-H camp. Mark your calendars and plan to join in the fun at EPL.
Check out this site - http://www.firstbook.org/whatbook/ - People vote for the book(s) that got them hooked and then choose a state to receive free books - Nebraska was 2nd at last count - so perhaps we need to spread the word to people to vote so we can get some free books given to Nebraska. You can vote every day until it ends, so people should go back to this site daily.
Thanks!
